About the Infrastructure Council
The Infrastructure Council focuses on public systems that are essential to Illinois business: roads and bridges, railways (freight and public transit), shipping via waterways, and airports. The Council is seeking new members to initiate efforts for water supply and treatment, utilities, pipelines, power generation, power distribution systems and communications networks. All of these systems impact the civic, social and economic future of the people and employers of Illinois.
Currently there are three Issue Committees to address pending and emerging issues:
- Rail
- Roads & Bridges
- Waterway Shipping
- Airports
Recent actions:
- supported WRDA with US Army Corps of Engineers, cosponsored educational barge tours for decision makers
- helped secure seed money funding for CREATE, a $1.5 billion plan to upgrade Chicago’s rail infrastructure; continue to support this much needed improvement with major regional and national impact
- Instrumental is building a coalition to stop a new state fuel tax on non-highway users
