Resolution in Support of The University of Chicago to be chosen, by the U.S. Department of Energy, as the management and operations contractor for the Rare Isotope Accelerator
October 27, 2004
Whereas, the Argonne National Laboratory is uniquely suited to be chosen as the site for the Rare Isotope Accellerator project as it has clear infrastructure advantages over competing areas, which equate to very substantial implementation cost benefits, and
Whereas, this project will generate $500 million in local contracts and up to a $2 billion multiplier effect from wages and services, and
Whereas, it would represent a major infrastructure addition that will sustain and bolster Illinois' technology future, and
Whereas, it would attract hundreds of users (national and international) into the local state economy every year, and
Whereas, an annual operating budget of $85 million/year will generate many long term high paying jobs, and
Whereas, it would benefit existing manufacturing businesses that are currently using derivatives of rare isotope technology, and
Whereas, the technologies developed, discovered and deployed will be a catalyst to build and expand the high tech business sector in Illinois, therefore
Be it Resolved, that the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors strongly supports and endorses the selection of The University of Chicago to be chosen as the management and operations contractor for the Rare Isotope Accelerator project by the U.S. Department of Energy.
